Equipment/Year End Survey Deposit Required

There is an equipment/year end survey deposit of $175 required for all tackle football players.  Your check will be collected at equipment pick-up and you will be provided shoulder pads, helmet and pants (with pads and a belt).  Your deposit will be returned to you at equipment turn in.  All equipment must be returned in good condition and you must have completed your "Year End Survey Online".

If you do not turn in your equipment at "Equipment Return" your deposit check will be cashed and you will have to keep the equipment until the equipment pick up the following year.  During equipment pick up for the following season you should return all the items.  Once you turn in the equipment you will be issued a refund, minus a $25 service fee.

Weight Restrictions

Ball Carrier weight limits are as follows:

2nd/3rd Grade - 90lbs (can carry the ball if 90lbs or less)
4th Grade-100lbs (can carry the ball if 100lbs or less)
5th Grade-125lbs (can carry the ball if 125 or less)
6th Grade-135lbs (can carry the ball if 135 or less)

Players in excess of the weights will have a stripe of red tape affixed to their helmet from the front to the back and will not be allowed to carry the ball except in the case of a fumble recovery, interception or a kick that goes directly to the player (i.e. no lateral or hand-off allowed).

For more information see TCNYFL rules.

NOTE:  The weights in the coaches manual are no longer accurate.  Please go by the information provided in the TCNYFL Rules.

2nd-6th Defensive Alignments

In the Okie alignment, defensive tackles must be either head up or nose on the outside shoulder of the offensive tackle.  Noseguard  must be head up on the center.  Nose and defensive tackles must be in a down alignment.  Ends can be head up on the tight end, outside shade of the tight end, and as wide as one stride outside the tight end or wingback if the wingback is in a heavy or wing alignment.  Defensive ends can either be down or in an up alignment.

In the 4-3 alignment, which is an option for only 6th grade, the defensive tackles and ends must be in a down alignment.  Defensive ends can not loosen up wider than outside shade of tight end and must remain in a down alignment.  Tackles are head up on tackles in the even alignment, and are shaded on the shoulder of the offensive lineman in the under alignment.

There are no restrictions on defensive alignments in “goal line situations”, which are situations when the defense is inside its 5 yard line.  Blitzing is still prohibited in goal line situations.

Practicing in the Heat

We have had some concern about the palyers practicing in "full pads" with the weather conditions the way they are.  Please use this as a guideline for what type of practices to have.  Make sure to keep an eye on the weather and its conditions.

2014 Tackle Football Team Formation Information

2nd – 3rd Grade - Team formation is done by the AFA board and is based on player weight, years of experience, and player/coach requests.  The two grades are combined and we do our best to balance the teams with an equal number of players at each size, grade level, and years of experience.  Coaches are allowed to protect 3 Assistant Coaches at this level or if they choose they can notify us later who their Assistant Coaches are.  You will get your own child and you assistant’s children.  Player/coach requests are accepted at this grade level but are not guaranteed as team balance must be maintained.  The 3 Assistant coaches you protect will be your official assistant coaches and those will be the ones getting credit for the volunteer hours.

4th thru 6th Grade - Coaches are allowed to protect 3 Assistant Coaches at this level.  You will get your own child and your assistant’s children.  Player/coach requests are not accepted at this level.  The 3 Assistant coaches you protect will be your official assistant coaches and those will be the ones getting credit for the volunteer hours.  If any coach at this level has more than 1 child playing on the same team, both players will be on that team and the extra child will count as their 1st pick in the draft.  A head coach who does not have a child playing will be allowed to protect 1 extra player unless his assistants have 4 children or more on the team already.  To complete the team’s coaches will draft the remaining players until they are all selected.  All draft orders will be determined by a random draw.  The board reserves the right to modify the draft order as needed.

7th – 8th Grade – We will have 7th and 8th grade heavyweight team(s) and 7th and 8th grade lightweight team(s).  Lightweight teams could be 7th, 8th or 7th/8th mixed, depending on number of players registered at each grade.  Coaches are allowed to protect 3 Assistant Coaches at this level.  You will get your own child and you assistant’s children. Heavyweight coaches will select all players 130lbs/120lbs and up first.  All coaches then select the lightweight players.  All draft orders will be determined by a random draw.  The board reserves the right to modify the draft order as needed.  The board reserves the right to move players as needed at this grade level.  New for 2014 - 7th Grade Heavyweight limit is now any player over 120lbs.  8th Grade and Mixed teams will remain at players over 130lbs.
